STAN SOOCHER
Stan Soocher is Professor of Music & Entertainment Industry Studies at the University of Colorado's Denver Campus. He is also an award-winning journalist and entertainment attorney, as well as the long-time Editor-in-Chief of the monthly publication Entertainment Law & Finance.
Stan authored the chapter "Twenty-First-Century Patronage: The Road to Billy Joel's Madison Square Garden Concert Residency" in the new book We Didn't Start the Fire: Billy Joel and Popular Music Studies (edited by Joshua S. Duchan and Ryan Raul Bañagale/Lexington Books). Billy Joel wrote the book's Foreword.
Stan is also the author of Baby You're a Rich Man: Suing the Beatles for Fun & Profit. His earlier book They Fought the Law: Rock Music Goes to Court is now available in an updated and expanded edition as an e-book in the Amazon Kindle Store.
In March 2021, Stan presented "Hot Topics in Right of Publicity Disputes" to the Thomson Reuters-affiliated Celesq AttorneysEd Center.
Also in March 2021, Stan moderated a panel for the State Bar of Michigan International Law Section on "Trading in Music: Law, Business Practices and Cross-Border Issues."
In February 2021, Stan served as a panelist for “What Arts Deans Need to Know About Handling Music Rights for Streamed Performances” presented to the International Council of Fine Arts Deans.
In December 2020, Stan presented "Significant New Court Rulings in Entertainment and Media" to the Nashville Bar Association. This is his 27th consecutive year speaking to the Nashville Bar Association.
Also in December 2020, Stan gave his "Copyright Year in Review" presentation for the 24th consecutive year to the Copyright Society of the South in Nashville.
In November 2020, Stan presented the "Annual Roundup of Notable Entertainment Industry Court Rulings" for the 19th consecutive year to the State Bar of Texas Annual Entertainment Law Institute.
In October 2020, Stan presented “A Practical Look at Recent Court Decisions in Film and TV Production” at the virtual version of the New Orleans-based 28th Annual Cutting Edge Entertainment Law Seminar.
In May 2020, as he has for many years, Stan presented "Entertainment Law Year in Review" to the New York State Bar Association's Entertainment, Arts & Sports Law Section.
In December 2019, Stan presented "Significant New Court Rulings in Entertainment and Media" to the Nashville Bar Association. This was his 26th consecutive year speaking to the Nashville Bar Association.
Also in December 2019, Stan gave his "Copyright Year in Review" presentation for the 23rd consecutive year to the Copyright Society of the South in Nashville.
In November 2019, Stan presented "Annual Roundup of Notable Entertainment Industry Court Rulings" for the 18th consecutive year at the State Bar of Texas Annual Entertainment Law Institute in Austin.
