Quote: “Your business should serve your life not the other way around” - Graham Cochrane After all the talk we have had this season about each of the notes that make up the Financial Scale, it’s time for us to discuss the best way to apply it. EPISODE 54

D is for Debt

We often focus on how much we make but just as important to pay attention to is not living in a way that you owe more than you make.  This “is” (slash) “has been” the exact downfall of many very “successful” artists. It’s very important that we have the freedom to do what we want to do with what we earn.  This is the biggest danger of debt.  It sucks the life and power out of your income and can keep you from ever growing great wealth.  If you don’t truly build this understanding of debt it won’t ever matter how much you make as you will still end up broke.

EPISODE 51

Musicians Money Mindset

What Is Money Mindset? Your money mindset is your unique set of beliefs and your attitude about money. It drives the decisions you make about saving, spending and handling money. People who have a healthy money mindset believe things like: I have the freedom to spend, but I can also tell myself “no” to a purchase. As predictable as a Hollywood movie ending, when someone thinks “musician” as a career choice they think; hard life, temporary, dreamer, low-income...As artists we think; all or nothing, complete sacrifice, poor until rich, make or break and often end up accepting a low-income career mindset. Well, we are here to change that, the shift must start with the way we think as musicians and money. Money doesn’t think. What gives money meaning and emotion is humanity, it’s us. So whatever type of money movie you have been watching, grab some popcorn as we discuss the plot holes.
